Welcome to Ms. Beggs' Classroom

I am so excited for this school year to start!  Fifth grade is a fun, fast, and informative year.  It will be your final year of elementary school geared to prepare you for middle school!

First, let me tell you about all of the fun things to look forward to.  At the beginning of the year, we will be taking a trip to RCC.  Now is the time to start thinking seriously about your future and what you would like to be when you grow up.  We will also travel to Crater Lake twice! The fall field school will teach you about decomposition, habitats, plants, trees, and how Crater Lake was formed. The spring field school will include snow shoeing and lessons about hibernation, migration and confrontation. Later in the year, we will go fishing at Lake Selmac with the Steeleheaders after learning from them in class.  Finally, we have our traditional end of the year Jet Boat trip!

When I mentioned fast, it is because each month holds something big that we are looking forward to. September we have the beginning of school and our Jog-a-thon. October we have Crater Lake, RCC, and the Fall Festival.  November, we have the Veteran’s Day program (5th grade), the end of the first trimester and Conferences. December has just three weeks and then we have Christmas break. January entails our Science Fair and some preparation for State Testing.  February… You get the idea!  5th grade is a really big year and it moves! Even our school day, in class, will seem to fly by!

It will seem to fly because there is so much to learn! We will begin the year with the usual assessments (tests) so that I know where you are as a student. In fifth grade, we continue to use Scott Foresman Reading Street and EnVision Math. If you scroll further down this web page, you will see a link to Pearson Success-net.  That link will keep you and your parents connected to what we are doing in class.  If you have a parent or grand parent who would like to come in and help, have them call or email me! Finally, this is the year of “cruise”.  You will get to switch classes for Science and Social Studies! Mrs. Tousley and Mrs. DeYoung welcome the opportunity to teach you, too!

This is a big year.  It will be very important that you come to school each day and keep up on your class and homework. Everything we do will be to prepare you for middle school and beyond! I am so looking forward to guiding you on this wonderful, memorable journey!
