CROSS COUNTRY 2018-2019
PRACTICES START AUGUST 20TH - AUGUST 30TH AT SMS -
Welcome to the SMS Cross Country Program! We are excited about our returning athletes as well as a new crop of runners joining us this year. South Middle School competes with teams from the Southern Oregon Middle School Athletic Conference (SOMSAC). The sport is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls.
Our regular schedule practices (once school begins) will run every day after school, from 3:15 to about 5:00; we start and end practices on the track near the outside bathrooms. For practice, we generally run off campus, mostly within a mile radius of the school. Our meets are on Thursdays and, depending on the location, sometimes students are dismissed early from school. Please see the meet schedule for more specifics. Our goals are to help students develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle and create a life-long passion for running, so we ask students to commit to coming to practice regularly. We understand, however, that students may have other commitments and need to miss some practices. We can work with these special cases as long as the absences are prearranged. Your child needs to be cleared through the athletic department before he/she can practice with us. Forms and information can be found in the main office at SMS. Below, you will also find the uniform agreement. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to meet us after practice. Additionally, you can reach Coach Lellis at 541-476-5310 (cell) or by email at email@example.com. Thanks and we look forward to another great season!
Your SMS Cross Country coaches Brandi Wright and Sheryl Lellis.
Motion Stability Shoes
When you're out purchasing shoes for the upcoming season, please look for motion stability shoes. These shoes can be purchased at Shoes Right Here or Big 5 and if you let them know that you are a SMS athlete, you will get a discount of 10-20% off. Saucony and Asics brands are recommended.
The last day to join Cross Country will be September 7, 2018! Please call the office with any questions.
