Degrees and Certifications:

Dr. Ursula Horstmann-Nash

Frau Nash was born and raised in the North-Western part of Germany, in a small town (Germans would call it a village) near Münster.  At the age of 14, she participated in her first international exchange and spent three weeks with a host family in York, England.  She liked the experience so much that in the following year she did another exchange, this time with Orleans, France. Both exchanges shaped her life-long interest in foreign languages, cultures, literatures and traveling. Consequently, she got a degree in German, English and Pedagogy at the University of Münster with the intent of becoming a teacher. During this time, she couldn't resist the opportunity to enhance her studies by spending a year at the University of East Anglia, Norwich.  She then thought it would be a good idea to bridge the time between her university degree in Münster and her two-year teaching program in Düsseldorf by going to the University of Washington, Seattle, and getting her M.A. in German Studies. After finishing her teaching degree in Germany, she went back to the U.S. to get her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, College Park. During her many tenures as a teacher, she has taught German at the pre-school, primary, secondary and post-secondary level and has also had the opportunity to work as a principal at a small German immersion school.  She is thrilled to be teaching German at Grants Pass High School where the value of foreign languages is recognized and supported. Frau Nash--this comes as no surprise--runs an exchange program between Grants Pass High School and the Hölderlin Gymnasium, Germany.

P.S.: To this day, Frau Nash is still in contact with her exchange partner from York, England.
