Grants Pass School District 7 is expanding its free early learning program to a second site, building on early data showing that students who participate are more prepared, more confident, and academically ahead of their peers when they enter kindergarten.

To support this expansion, the district will host an inaugural “Tee Up for Early Learning” Golf Scramble on Friday, June 5, at Dutcher Creek Golf Course. Proceeds will help fund a second early learning location scheduled to open during the 2027–28 school year, including construction of an ADA-accessible playground expected to begin later this year.

Established in 2023, Grants Pass School District 7’s Early Learning program is funded entirely through donations and grants, as early learning programs does not receive state funding like K–12 education. Currently operating one site at Highland Elementary School, the program provides no-cost services to families living within district boundaries, including:

  • Inclusive preschool for 36 students

  • Parent/guardian and child playgroups

  • Family workshops

  • Kindergarten readiness classes

Early results show the program is making a difference. District data indicates that children who participated in the district’s early learning programs are scoring higher on mid-year kindergarten reading assessments compared to peers who did not participate.

“Three years in, we’re seeing proof that when we invest in children early, we change their academic trajectory,” said Early Learning Coordinator Annie Blanchard. “Early learning builds confidence, curiosity, and a strong foundation for success.”

The golf scramble costs $500 per team of four, which includes a cart, food, and beverages. Teams must register by May 25, 2026, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Sponsors are encouraged to commit by April 1 to guarantee event signage.

Every dollar raised will help unlock a $100,000 matching gift from the JTMF Foundation, doubling the community’s impact and accelerating the expansion of early learning opportunities in Grants Pass.
