Interdistrict Transfers (Changing school districts)
This transfer process is for families who do not reside within the Grants Pass School District 7 boundaries but would like to attend the Grants Pass School District. This transfer requires approval from both the school district your child currently attends and our district.
Interdistrict applications open May 18, 2026. The deadline to apply for an interdistrict transfer is Friday, June 12, 2026.
Intradistrict Transfers (Changing schools within GPSD7)
This transfer process is for families who wish to attend a different school within the Grants Pass School District 7 than the school they reside by.
Grants Pass School District’s first priority is to enroll students in their neighborhood school. Attending your neighborhood school helps students maintain local friendships and community connections, provides district transportation, and reduces daily travel time for families. Specific boundaries have been identified by the GPSD7 School Board for each elementary school. For middle school, the boundary is defined by zip code: students residing in 97526 attend North Middle School, and those in 97527 attend South Middle School.
Families may request a transfer to a school outside their neighborhood. Transfer requests are reviewed based on available space, including school enrollment, class size, and overall class composition. As part of the review process, a student’s attendance and behavior records are also considered.
If a transfer is approved, families should understand that approval is conditional and for one year only. To keep a granted transfer, students must:
- Maintain an average attendance rate of 92% or higher
- Arrive on time every school day
- Follow all school and district policies and procedures
- Have family-provided transportation to and from school
The school district reserves the right to revoke a transfer at any time, at its discretion, if any one of these conditions is not met.
transfer request Process to start the school year
Students entering 6 grade:
- By February 23, parents wishing to request an intradistrict transfer for the following year must complete the intradistrict transfer form. Before 5th graders visit their next year's middle school, they will be notified whether the transfer request was approved or denied.
- Requests submitted after February 23 will not be reviewed until July, and parents and students will be notified before the start of school. The district’s goal is to achieve a better balance in enrollment between North and South Middle School. The student will attend transition activities for their resident boundary until a decision is made in August.
Students K-5, or 7-8 grades:
- By July 15th, parents wishing to request an intradistrict transfer must complete the request using the online intradistrict transfer form.
- Final decisions will be communicated to the family by the staff of the requested school.
- All attempts will be made to notify families by August 1 of the status of the request; in some cases, notification will be delayed until one week before the start of school.
- Requests submitted after August 1 may not be reviewed until the end of the first week of school. It is the district’s goal to achieve a better balance in enrollment across all elementary schools, and this time is needed to review enrollment numbers. The student will attend transition activities and class for their resident school until a decision is made.
During the school year, transfer requests may be made for the current school year. Forms will be reviewed by the two affected principals, and a decision will be communicated to the family within 10 school days.
