Career-Related Learning

Goal 3

We will increase career related learning experiences for all students in grades K - 12 in order to ensure added post-graduate readiness.

Objective 1: Measure annually the amount of career-related learning experiences students are exposed to as measured by teacher survey.

We will...
  • Annually collect data from teachers related to career-related learning experiences they complete in their classroom.
  • Provide curriculum ideas, resources, and possible guest speakers to elementary, middle, and high school staff so as to increase student career-connected opportunities. 

  • Utilize Naviance (or other tools like You Science) in grades 6 – 12 to identify student strengths, interests, and career goals.

  • Increase community partnerships.

Objective 2: Assure workplace expectations are being taught explicitly throughout the curriculum, most specifically in the 10th-grade Career Academy class and the 12th-grade Personal Finance class.

We will...

  • Review scope and sequence documentation from each Career Academy and Personal Finance teacher to see where/when workplace expectations are embedded.
  • Increase students, parents/guardians, and staff knowledge and understanding of workplace expectations.

  • Expand AVID implementation K – 12 (ongoing)

Objective 3Provide strong and varied career and technical education pathways ensuring that all programs of study meet state requirements in all areas as measured by the ODE Perkins report.

We will...

  • Ensure alignment of middle school courses to high school courses (24/25)

  • Increase student knowledge in grades 5 – 8 of CTE opportunities at GPHS (ongoing)

  • Analyze CTE course to award alternate credit (25/26)

  • Build more awareness for parents of courses offered at GPHS (i.e. CTE one pager) (24/25)

  • Increase internships, job shadows, workplace learning experiences for high school students (ongoing)

  • Increase opportunities and connections for career and technical education at Gladiola High School. (ongoing)

  • Expand the Health Science program of study at GPHS by adding back an additional teacher (by 2027)

  • Increase the number of certifications students can earn in CTE courses (ongoing)

  • Increase professional development for CTE teachers (ongoing)
