GPHS Mobile Lab Arrives

GPHS Receives Mobile Class

STEM Manufacturing by Design is an innovative project that was selected to receive a Career and Technical Education Revitalization grant (see below).  The project includes a Mobile Class lab filled with equipment that will allow high school students and staff to work collaboratively with middle schools to engage middle school students in various STEM activities as they relate to high school pathways.  Students will build solid knowledge foundations through hands-on, real-world learning. Ultimately, these expanded opportunities will lead to increased student engagement, real world skill development, and higher graduation and postsecondary success rates.

The Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD), in collaboration with the Grants Pass and Medford school districts and ScienceWorks, was awarded a $488,000 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Revitalization Grant in early 2016. The focus of the grant was to fund CTE efforts, focusing on 21st century skills in manufacturing and design. This innovative project was designed to provide industry standard equipment in the manufacturing labs at Grants Pass High School and North and South Medford High Schools as well as providing for two Mobile Class Labs housed at Grants Pass and North Medford High Schools. Working with community industry partners and Rogue Community College, these Mobile Class CTE Labs will be utilized in the transportation of Advanced Manufacturing/Design mobile equipment between K-12 schools and events in Jackson and Josephine Counties, delivering curriculum based on High Wage/High Demand/High Skill career opportunities for students.
