Update to 2020-2021 Calendar
We wanted to make you aware of an important update regarding the start of the 2020-21 school year. Tuesday, the school board approved a change to the Grants Pass School District 7 calendar. School will now begin, Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Please see the revised 20/21 school calendars linked below.
This change will allow us to provide our teachers with the time and training needed to get ready for whatever school will look like in the fall. We learned a lot this spring when we had to transition to distance learning nearly overnight. Based on the feedback we received from teachers and families, this time will allow us to develop the best possible methods to support our students and families no matter what school looks like in the fall.
We know there are a lot of questions, and there is a lot of information that’s circulating online and throughout the community about what school might look like in the fall. The Oregon Department of Education has provided us with initial guidance that will be updated throughout the summer and we are working around the clock to determine a plan that works for all students within the health and safety requirements identified by ODE. We know there are health concerns for some about returning to school full time, while distance learning would create serious challenges for others. As we navigate the new normal COVID-19 has created for us, we struggle with our desire to provide our kids with the best education possible in our classrooms, while also keeping them safe. We hope to have kids in classrooms with their teachers as much as possible, but we realize that with certain requirements like physical distancing, a hybrid model of some on-campus learning and some distance learning, may be in our future.
We appreciate your continued grace and patience as we work through this together.
