2023 Elementary Summer Sessions

FREE summer sessions are returning to Grants Pass School District 7 this summer! Join us this summer for fun, engaging learning opportunities. Browse the elementary school summer session options below by clicking on each course name. Please note not all sessions are open to all grade levels.

Sign-ups will open the week of May 22, 2023. Parents/Guardians will receive a notification via ParentSquare at 6:00 PM.

Arctic Adventures

Open to current K-2 students.

Let’s beat the summer heat! Come explore the Arctic Tundra/Arctic Ocean and the many fascinating animals that not only survive in that harsh climate, but actually call it home! We’ll learn about some of the inhabitants through hands on learning, fun experiments and create some beautiful masterpieces to take home and share with our families! Anybody up for a little penguin bowling? Get ready for a ‘cool’ summer!!

Beginner Basketball Basics

Classroom Camping

Open to current K-2 students.

Let’s go on an adventure! Students will transform the classroom into a campsite with tents, a river and a faux fire pit surrounded by trees. We will make yummy treats, complete art projects, and play educational games that are camping themed.

Introduction to Chromebooks

Open to current K-2 students.

The students will get to explore the basics of logging into our district chromebooks and using many programs that the schools use. This is for all skill levels. From students whom have never signed in, to students that are comfortable with chromebooks. We will be doing some fun math and reading programs as well as computer science and coding.

Oceanography: The study of ocean animals

Open to current K-2 students.

You will learn about the different oceans. And also learn about some ocean animals. You will do fun crafts almost everyday. On the last day you will watch an ocean movie while researching one of your favorite ocean animals and make your own ocean aquarium.

Science Week

Open to current K-2 students.

We will be diving into a variety of ocean animals, what plants need to survive, exploring different kinds of insects, and what a living and non-living thing is! We will be doing a lot of crafts, exploring, investigations, reading, and even some planting throughout the week! Each day will be a new topic to discover and learn about.

Feeling Artistic

Open to current 3-5 students.

Feeling Artistic will be a class that pairs social-emotional learning with learning how to paint and express oneself on canvas. Students will have the opportunity to learn to identify where they are in the zone, how to communicate, and self-regulate to support moving through to a better location for learning and growing. The first part of the class will be learning about emotions and how they are in our bodies, and the second half, we will work on a canvas that we will finish on Friday to take home for parents to see! They should wear clothes that they are okay with getting dirty and be ready to play and learn about some skills that will support students moving forward in their learning journey.

Fun with Music

Open to current 3-5 students.

We will explore rock and roll, movie music and sound effects, color and listen to music, and build an instrument that you can take home! We will run through some fun projects that touch on the many ways music is a part of our everyday lives. It will include drawing, listening to music, discussing how music works in movies, and other fun things.

Open to current 3-5 students.

Spend part of your summer learning Spanish. It's only one week, but you can learn how to talk to someone who speaks Spanish. Whether you don't know any Spanish at all, or you know your uno, dos, tres, this class is for you!

Learn how to make scrapbook pages, mini albums, and greeting cards. You will be designing your own projects using a variety of fun supplies and techniques. You will be taking home several completed projects to share your memories with family and friends.

Square Foot Gardening

Open to current 3-5 students.

Each student will receive a 2’x2’ garden box. They will learn how to mix the soil and plant their garden boxes with specific vegetables and flowers. They will also learn how to compost and about soil biology. This will be a fun and educational opportunity.

Mr. Barei's SEL camp is designed to support students social emotional learning. Campers learn all about social emotional skills and ways to self regulate. This camp offers various lessons on relationship building, social awareness, self awareness, decision making, and self management.

Oil (Pastels) and Water (Colors)

Paper

Open to current K-5 students.

How is it made? How can you turn it into cool things? In this class using simple techniques and materials we'll transform humble paper into fun and useful crafts. We will make homemade paper, paper weaving, and jewelry. We will make paper mache pinatas and test them out at the end of the week at a paper party. We'll also do simple origami everyday with a challenge involved and other fun crafts. Come be inspired by paper!

Beginning Knitting

Cheer Your Heart Out

Open to current 3-5 students.

Students will learn basic cheer skills such as motions, jumps, cheers, proper stretching/conditioning and a 1 minuet 30 second cheer routine. There will be NO tumbling or stunting involved. Please make sure your child wears appropriate tennis shoes & clothing, no sandals, open toe shoes, dresses or skirts. Also please send your child with a healthy snack and water.

Classroom Carnival

Open to current 3-5 students.

Step right up! Help transform the classroom into a carnival. Students will collaboratively participate in themed reading, writing, math, and STEM activities. They will design and build carnival games and at the end of the week, we will put them to the test.

Computer Science and Coding

Open to current 3-5 students.

Students will get to learn the basics of coding and creating programs and games. This is a very fun process and is easy to use. All students 3rd-5th grade are welcome no matter what their skill level. Students will work in different programs to fit all comfort levels. Students will also explore some fun reading and math games that are used at many of our elementary schools along with creating games of their own.

In the Zone

Open to current K-5 students.

In the Zone will support learning how to identify, address, and communicate the different zones of regulation. Children will have fun building support posters, role-playing situations, and learning about the zones and what it may feel like in their bodies. Students will also be able to find coping mechanisms that work for them while being encouraged to have a good time in our classroom community.

Intermediate Chess

Life on the Rogue

Open to current K-5 students.

Come explore the beautiful Rogue and all it has to offer! Each day we’ll focus on a different aspect of it such as the history of the Rogue, the wildlife that lives in it, the wildlife that lives around it & the many recreational activities that it has to offer. We have some special visitors coming in as well. We’ll get some expert water safety tips & lifesaving skills from a marine deputy. As well as a Fish & Wildlife Trooper sharing their vast knowledge of the creatures that call our backyard, home. Come spend each day learning through hands-on crafting, snack making and maybe even catch a glimpse of our favorite big-footed forest friend!

Do you love animals? Want to learn or review basic pet care needs through fun games, arts and crafts? This is your class! We will make DIY pet toys, treats, and animal inspired crafts from simple everyday things. Kids will also adopt a stuffed "pet" to learn about and take care of for the whole week. Come learn and be inspired by pets!
